RUN Hong Kong harnesses the transformative power of sport, education, care, and community to support vulnerable refugees—especially women—as they rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose. Through physical activity, skills training, and holistic care, we help participants strengthen their resilience and work toward healing, independence, and a true sense of belonging in a city that too often leaves them in limbo. With sport as the springboard and education as the foundation, we create real pathways to self-reliance and hope.
Our annual RUN Race, held in support of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls (November 25), unites our community around an issue that is both urgent and deeply personal for many of our participants. We wear orange to “Orange the World,” raising awareness and showing solidarity. The race is also a celebration of the courage and determination of our refugee participants—many of whom view this event as a meaningful milestone on their journey. Join us in your brightest orange gear (there’s a prize for best outfit!), and don’t forget to cheer loudly and share a high-five along the trail.

RUN Hong Kong is a registered HK charity (Inland Revenue Ordinance S88 no. 91/14890) dedicated to uplifting vulnerable refugees—especially women and children—through sports, education, essential services, and pathway support in Hong Kong and beyond .
Born in 2015 from a simple hiking outing for refugee women, RUN has evolved into a vibrant non-profit led by co-founder Virginie Goethals . Its name reflects its core pillars:
Sport: Using physical activity—including weekly hikes and running—to help participants rehabilitate from trauma, build mental and physical resilience, and foster community .
Education: Providing skills training, homework support, and employment readiness to help refugees attain self-reliance and workforce access .
Pathways: Supporting applications for sponsorship and resettlement—particularly to Canada—RUN helps refugees start fresh, ending long periods of limbo .
Health & Essential Services: Ensuring access to basic needs: nutritious food, safe housing, medical and psychological care, childcare during programmes, and aid navigating the public health system .
RUN’s impact is tangible: nearly half of participants have obtained legal refugee status—significantly higher than the <1% citywide approval rate—highlighting the organization’s focus on those most at risk .
RUN is driven by a small but committed team and volunteers trained in trauma-aware practice. Joining RUN means contributing to meaningful change, whether through fundraising, donations, volunteering, or participating in events like the annual RUN Charity Race held in support of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women each November .
